SUN EMBRACES THE SOIL is a photobook that records my return to my hometown, Suphanburi—the place where I was born, raised, and where I came back to live again after years of wandering in the city.
 
This project began in 2020, during the COVID-19 outbreak, just as my son turned one year old. With travel restrictions in place, I spent most of my time at home, turning the camera toward my surroundings—the changing landscapes, family life, local culture, state-led development, and fading traces of childhood memories.
 
The ecosystems I once knew have nearly disappeared. Bamboo groves, the canal in front of my house, small woodlands, even the playground from my memory—have all been replaced by construction sites, roads, and new houses. Strangers have become part of the village, to the point where, at times, I myself am seen as a stranger too.
 
I photographed this body of work with a medium format film camera, using more than a hundred rolls of 120 film since 2020. The images are rooted in personal memory, yet filled with questions: What have we lost? And what remains in the name of progress? This is a story of soil, family, sunlight, plants, rivers, and life that continues amidst them all.
 
SUN EMBRACES THE SOIL is the first official photobook of Kheansang Publishing.
It is a work created without commission, without outside constraints—
a story I chose to tell, in my own way.

โปรเจกต์นี้เริ่มต้นในปี 2020 ช่วงการระบาดของโควิด-19 ซึ่งเป็นช่วงที่ลูกชายเรามีอายุครบหนึ่งขวบพอดี ด้วยข้อจำกัดในการเดินทาง เราจึงใช้เวลาส่วนใหญ่ที่บ้าน เริ่มถ่ายภาพสิ่งรอบตัว ทั้งภูมิทัศน์ที่เปลี่ยนไป ชีวิตครอบครัว วัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่น การพัฒนาที่เกิดจากนโยบายรัฐ และร่องรอยของความทรงจำในวัยเด็กที่ค่อย ๆ เลือนหาย
 
ระบบนิเวศที่เราเคยรู้จักแทบไม่เหลืออยู่แล้ว ไม่ว่าจะเป็นกอไผ่ เหมืองหน้าบ้าน ป่าขนาดเล็ก หรือสนามเด็กเล่นในความทรงจำ ทุกอย่างกลายเป็นพื้นที่ก่อสร้าง ถนน บ้านเรือนใหม่ ๆ ผุดขึ้นมากมาย ผู้คนแปลกหน้าก็เพิ่มขึ้น กระทั่งบางครั้งเราเองก็เป็นคนแปลกหน้าสำหรับบางคนในหมู่บ้านเช่นกัน
 
เราใช้กล้องฟิล์มขนาดกลาง (Medium Format) ถ่ายภาพชุดนี้ ใช้ฟิล์มไปมากกว่าร้อยม้วน (ฟิล์ม 120) ตั้งแต่ปี 2020 เป็นต้นมา ภาพถ่ายเหล่านี้อิงกับความทรงจำส่วนตัว แต่ก็เต็มไปด้วยคำถามว่า เราสูญเสียอะไรไปบ้าง และสิ่งใดที่ยังคงอยู่ในนามของความก้าวหน้า นี่คือเรื่องราวของผืนดิน ครอบครัว แสงแดด พืชพรรณ สายน้ำ และชีวิตที่ยังดำเนินไปท่ามกลางสิ่งเหล่านั้น
